To create a social movement that changes public perception about stigma related to mental health and substance use disorders.

To act as an organizational incubator convening tools, resources, and information providing a common platform and space for the mental health community to coalesce, learn and grow.

Our Strategic Plan

Structural Stigma 

Goal:

Enact change at the structural level by uniting elected officials, other leaders and Grand Challenge partners to collaboratively develop platforms with measures to determine areas for change at the public and private policy level.

Objective 1: 

Evaluate and articulate the impact of current federal, state and local laws, regulations, systems and public/private policies.

Objective 2: 

Unite Grand Challenge partners and public and private leaders (e.g. in schools, workplaces, religious groups, advocacy, healthcare and insurance systems, veterans and the criminal justice system) on the need for policy change.

Objective 3: 

Develop an internal and external communication plan that catalyzes change and increases action at a public & private
structural level.

Public Stigma 

Goal:

Create measurable change in cultural norms and attitudes to improve the awareness and acceptance of persons with mental health and substance use disorders.

Objective 1:

Objective 2: 

Measure and articulate the current public perceptions surrounding mental health and substance use disorders and the drivers of stigma within a wide variety of populations.

Objective 3: 

Launch public-facing programs and toolkits that are targeted toward the general public or specific audiences to change perceptions, beliefs and behaviors about those with mental health and substance use disorders.

Self Stigma 

Goal:

Improve personal awareness, self acceptance, and understanding in people impacted by mental health and substance use disorders, empowering them to live full lives.

Objective 1: 

Use quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate and articulate the self-stigma surrounding mental health and substance use disorders and its drivers by better understanding lived experiences across diverse populations.

Objective 2: 

Identify new partners and nourish current partners focusing on self stigma, and develop campaigns and toolkits with new and existing partners.

Objective 3: 

Launch public-facing programs and toolkits for people impacted by mental health and substance use disorders to achieve measurable change in self-stigma.
